Global crisis comes to Arkhangelsk
Governor of Arkhangelsk Oblast, Ilya Mikhalchuk admits that the international financial crisis could have negative influence on the region’s 2009 budget. The administration is now preparing a number of anti-crisis measures, he says.
In a press conference this week, Governor Mikhalchuk said that the regional administration is working with the elaboration of a set of anti-crisis measures and that he “does not exclude a pessimistic 2009 budget solution”, Rosbalt reports. Among the first fields hit by the situation is likely to be the planned 30 percent salary increase for public employees. In addition, several regional investment programmes will be either halted or reduced, the governor confirmed. The governor highlighted however that the social programmes of the budget will remain unaffected.
