Lapland to host high-level meeting on EU economy

EU top leaders fly north to resolve the economic crises in southern Europe.

European prime ministers and finance ministers will meet in Saariselkä in northern Finland for the weekend March 23-25. The list of participants is not yet published.

The Finnish government says “The winter retreat meeting will focus on global economic growth and ways to resolve the economic crises in Europe.”

In March 2010, Foreign Ministers from Sweden, Estonia, Italy, Spain, France, Turkey and EU’s Foreign Minister Catherine Ashton spent a weekend in Saarisälke. The ski-resort provides a relaxing atmosphere in the hearth of the Barents Region, near Finland’s border to Russia in the north.
