Published criticism against Medvedev
The Karelian newspaper Iskra is coming under strong pressure from governor Sergei Katanandov after publishing a story with strong criticism of President Dmitry Medvedev.
The article highly critical of President Dmitry Medvedev was just a translation of an article first published in the Canadian newspaper Vancouver Sun in May. The article was a review of Medvedev’s first year as president, among other things calling him a “lapdog” just following the real man in power; Vladimir Putin.
“The president remains surrounded in the Kremlin by Putin’s cronies, all going about their business independent of Medvedev and awaiting the return of the master,” the article says.
According to AFP, Karelia’s governor Sergei Katanandov, accused the newspaper Iskra of “treating with contempt the elected leader of our great country by hiding behind dirty foreign pamphlets.”
The newspaper’s editor, Maria Morozova said to AFP that several advertisers were failing to cooperate because of the article and businessmen were asking for Iskra to be removed from distribution points.
“Police recently came to the newsroom to carry out checks to ensure the dignity of the president of Russia,” she added.
