Ratification on Tuesday
Stortinget, the Norwegian Parliament, will ratify the agreement with Russian on delimitation of the Barents Sea and Arctic Oceans.
The border deal with Norway is still not scheduled for ratification in the Russian State Duma.
After the delimitation deal was signed by the Norwegian and Russian Foreign Ministers in Murmansk last October, the plan was to ratify it simultaneously in both the Norwegian and the Russian Parliament.
The Norwegian Parliament’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense last week presented their recommendation to ratify the border deal.
In its recommendations, the Committee writes it is important to develop a comprehensive strategy for the management of the area in the Barents Sea, assumed to have a significant petroleum potential.
Research, development and mapping of the petroleum resources should get started as quickly as possible, reads the document from the Committee.
