Russia, Finland join efforts for environment
Vladimir Putin called Tarja Hallonen on Tuesday to tell about Russia’s efforts to improve the environmental situation in the Baltic including Karelia.
- Vladimir Putin informed the Finnish President about the active position of Russia in the environmental protection of the Baltic region, Putin’s press secretary Dmitri Peskov told Itar-Tass.
In the phone conversation, Putin informed about of a program on ecological improvements that will cover an area of 300,000 km2 in Karelia and around the Baltic Sea.
Also Finland’s Foreign Minister, Alexander Stubb, will discuss environmental issues when he attends the Russian Geographical Society’s Arctic seminar in St. Petersburg today.
Arctic policy, scientific, environmental and technological cooperation are on Stubb’s agenda.
