American bombs over Swedish Lapland

More than twenty U.S. fighter jets will this summer engage in joint training with Swedish aircrafts over Swedish Lapland.

The American jets and about 200 servicemen will be based in the F21 Air Force base outside Luleå in northern Sweden, newspaper Norrlänska Socialdemocraten reports.

The joint training will help strengthen the capacities of the Swedish Air Force. As part of the training, bombs will be dropped at the Lomben shooting field in the area.

As BarentsObserver reported, also last summer US. forces were in northern Sweden for training. In the Loyal Arrow drill, more than 50 foreign aircrafts participated. Northern Sweden was also training ground in this winter’s Cold Response drill.

Both drills triggered strong protest from several Swedish public organizations, arguing that neutral Sweden should not do joint training with NATO forces.
