Armed forces to protect interests in Arctic
-The Russian Armed Forces will protect Russian interests in the Arctic, in the areas which Russia claims are part of its continental shelf, General Lieutenant Vladimir Shamanov said to journalists yesterday.
The high-ranking military man also confirmed that the Russian General Staff by July 1 will present plans for a new formation of the Armed Forces. Mr. Shamanov highlighted that Russia has a whole range of units and which are prepared to take on tasks in the northern and Arctic regions, RIA Novosti reports.
