Hunger strikers to block road to fleet HQ
The twenty construction workers that started a hunger strike earlier this week are now threatening to block the main road between Murmansk and Severomorsk.
The twenty persons from the Russian Northern fleet’s construction brigade have not been paid the last eight months.
Wage arrears already amount to 65 million roubles (€ 1,6 million) according to trade union leader Natalia Dorovatovskaya, reports AFP.
The strikers are 13 women and seven men. In total, there are 132 employees in the Northern fleet’s construction brigade.
The main road connecting Severomorsk with Murmansk will be blocked if we don’t get our wage arrears says the strikers. Severomorsk is the Russian Northern fleet’s headquarter and is located some 20 kilometers north of Murmansk on the Kola Peninsula.
The Governor of Murmansk Oblast, Dmitri Dmitrienko, says in a statement posted on the administration’s web portal that he thinks the situation with payback of wages to the strikers and the others in the brigade will be solved soon.
