Icebreaking coastguard vessel
Russia’s FSB coastguard has got its first icebreaking patrol vessel, reports Izvestia.
The coastguard vessel is the first in a series of vessels able patrol Russia’s ice-covered waters. The vessel is of the 22120 and was launched from the shipyard in St. Petersburg on December 24th.
According to Izvestia, the coastguard vessel of the class will serve FSB’s border guard service in the Barents Sea, the Gulf of Finland, the Far East and the Sea of Azov. Where the first vessel will be based is not yet said.
The vessel has a displacement of 1066 tons, it is 71 metre long and a max speed of 24 knots. It has a helicopter platform and can sail in waters with a ice-thickness of more than half-metre.
