New manufacturer of Bulava missiles

The troublesome Bulava missile will not be replaced by other Russian missiles. However, the manufacturer of the high-tech submarine weapon will be shifted, leader of the Russian General Staff confirms.

As BarentsObserver has reported, the many failed launches of the Bulava missiles have triggered speculations about a possible replacement of the vessel with the “Sineva” missile.

That will not happen, leader of the General Staff Nikolai Makarov said this week, Interfax reported. The defence leader did however say that the manufacturing of the Bulava will be moved to another plant.

Today, the Bulava is assembled by the Votkinsky engineering plant. That moving of the Bulava assembly process could however take much time. A defence representative says to newspaper Vedomosti, that Russia today has no plants which can replace the Votkinsky plant.

The failed launch this July resulted in the dismissal of the missile’s general constructor Yuri Solomonov.
