Deputy mayor of border town convicted

The local court in Pechenga rayon, the border municipality to Norway and Finland, has found Deputy Mayor Aleksandr Balashov guilty on two charges.

The court found Mr. Balashov guilty on the charges of having “exceeded his powers”, as well of service “negligence”. He will now have to pay a fine of 20.000 RUB, MBnews.ru reports.

According the prosecutors, Balashov exceeded his powers when he last fall signed a contract with a local company on the repair of the heating and water supply system in the town of Nikel. The municipality paid two million rubles for the reconstruction work, although the actual work was never executed.
