More demonstrations in Murmansk

On Saturday people in Murmansk again took to the streets to protest against falsifications in the Duma elections.

The meeting was arranged by the Communist Party, but gathered people from other parties as well, m51 reports. Some 200 people took part in Saturday’s meetings, somewhat less than in the rallies that were arranged on Saturday December 10.

The public rallies that took place in cities across Russia on December 10 were the largest public protest in post-Soviet Russia.

In last Saturday’s meeting regional Communist leader Gennady Stepakhno said that United Russia’s victory in the elections was a fraud: - The people’s voices were stolen, Stepakhno said, adding that according to the party’s observators, the Communist Party won in several towns on the Kola Peninsula.

New nationwide demonstrations are planned to be held on December 24. People in Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Petrozavodsk and other Russian Barents towns are preparing to take to the streets again.
