Murmansk newspaper shuts down

The oldest newspaper in Murmansk Oblast, Polyarnaya Pravda, has temporarily shut down production because of financial difficulties.

According to TV Murman, the paper has experienced hardships for some time. This summer the number of weekly issues was cut down from four to three, and the number of pages has been reduced.

Polyarnaya Pravda has existed since 1920. The newspaper does not receive any support from the authorities and lives only on its own incomes, which have shrunk considerably because of the financial crisis.

The last issue of the paper came out last week, and their web edition has not been updated since October 29.
