Russian youth get introduced to Norwegian Space Technology

Russian and Norwegian youth researchers, participating in a research camp in Tromsø recently, were introduced to the newest of Space technology at Kongsberg Satellite Services.

The President of Space technology at Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT), Rolf Skattebo, welcomed the youth researchers to KSAT and gave a brief presentation of the company, while emphasizing on its involvement in industries like space technology, defence, oil and gas, etc.

Nina Soleng, International Sales Manager, gave a fascinating description of the many advantages of being located as far north as Tromsø. She mentioned that KSAT talks on average to satellites 10 times a day. The youth were fascinated by the many areas for satellite use; from marine monitoring and assisting BP in the Mexico Gulf, to a tool in combating climate change and ice melting.

The Russian and Norwegian youth were allowed to access the satellite park and were eager to understand the principles of satellite communication while watching the satellites move into position to lock on to a satellite.
