Russians getting more sceptical towards EU

A new opinion poll from the Public Opinion Fund (FOM) indicates a growing level of scepticism against the European Union among Russians. In the study, 39 percent of respondents describe relations with the EU as “negative”, while 21 percent say relations are positive.

Meanwhile, a major number of respondents (40%) say they have no opinion about the issue, the website of the Public Opinion Fund informs.

The poll also shows that 30 percent of respondents say Russia should seek membership in the EU, while 27 percent oppose this. The number of supporters of EU membership in the poll is lower than in all similar polls conducted since 2001, Murmannews.ru confirms.

Of the respondents opposing Russian EU membership, 14 percent argue that Russia is a big and powerful country and that integration with other European states therefore will bring no good.
