Summer of death in Norwegian traffic

This summer the number of deaths in traffic accidents in northern Norway has been among the highest ever.

So far 24 persons have died in traffic accidents in northern Norway this year. In all of 2007 the total number of persons who died in traffic accidents was 20.

In the three summer months of 2008, six persons have died in traffic accidents. This week a 17 year old passenger died in an accident in Troms, adding another number to the horrible statistics.

According to NRK, the numbers from Statens Vegvesen show that many deaths happen when young drivers have to high speed and crash on the side of the road. Male drivers are also dominant in the statistics. Only four of the dead traffic victims are female.
