The world’s most expensive marine research vessel

The new Norwegian marine research vessel will cost almost one billion NOK (125 million EUR).

The NVC 395 POLAR vessel will be outfitted to cover a wide range of marine research operations, such as monitoring fishing stocks, metreological studies, sea floor sampling and mapping, a press release from the ship’s designers, the Rolls-Royce company, reads.

The almost 100 meter long vessel will have the North and South Poles as priority areas. The vessel will have icebreaking capacities, helicopter landing space and a so-called moonpool for diving operations.

The vessel will be the biggest marine research vessel in the world, newspaper Fiskeribladetfiskaren reprots. Construction has not yet been started.
