Unemployment up 88 percent
By end April, the number of registered unemployed in Norway totaled 72,700 which is a 88 percent increase compared with figures from last year. Unemployment is highest in the northernmost county of Finnmark.
Since April last year, 34,000 more people have been registered as unemployed, head of the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration Tor Saglie said today. Unemployment is increasing most rapidly within the construction sector and in industry, he added, a press release from the administration reads.
Unemployment is highest among young men in the age group 20-24 years, with an unemployment rate of 7,1 percent.
The northernmost county of Finnmark is the region with the highest figures with 4,0 percent unemployment
