Finnair is about to become the airliner with most flights and destinations above the Arctic Circle.

Finnair with record number of flights above the Arctic Circle next winter

Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Ivalo, Kirkenes, Alta, Tromsø and Bodø are all destinations inside the Arctic Circle for the Finnish flag carrier the coming winter. The airport next to Santa Claus Village in Lapland gets as many as 72 weekly flights.

"The additional flights will be focused especially on the high season from December to February, but we have also added flights in March, thus supporting the whole winter travel season”, says Finnair's Perttu Jolma, Vice President, Network. 

As previously reported by the Barents Observer, Finnair is currently the only airliner flying cross-border routes between Finnish and Norwegian airports north of the Arctic Circle; Rovaniemi to Tromsø, Ivalo to Kirkenes, and Kittilä to Alta

Winter tourism with northern lights, loads of snow, skiing resorts, dog sledging and check-in for sleeping in snow hotels are among the main attractions for travelers from around the globe now setting course to northernmost Finland and Norway.

At the busiest, Finnair will have 72 weekly flights to Rovaniemi next winter, 10 flights more than last winter. Around Christmas, the peak-season for visiting Santa Claus Village, Rovaniemi will see 16 Finnair lands a day on Saturdays and 14 times a day on Sundays, the airliners informs.

Ski resorts like Levi and Ylläs are also experiencing a boom in visitors. Both are served by Kittilä airport, that will have up to 41 weekly flights next winter, seven flights more than the season that just ended.During the busiest weeks, Finnair flies to Kittilä up to eight times a day on Saturdays and Sundays.

Finnair's northernmost Finnish destination, Ivalo, will be operated up to 33 times a week, with additional flights on Saturdays and Sundays.
