Civil servants in Murmansk make better money

Salaries among officials working in the Murmansk regional administration are now the second best in all of Northwest Russia. The Murmansk civil servants make more than their colleagues in Sankt Petersburg. Only in the oil-rich Nenets Autonomous Okrug the regional officials are better paid.

In Northwest Russia, salaries among officials in the regional administrations remain highest in the oil-rich Nenets Autonomous Okrug (75.000 RUB/month), while the officials in Murmansk have passed their colleagues in Sankt Petersburg and now make a monthly of 43.000 RUB, B-port.com reports. A report from the Russian statistics agency (Rosstat) shows that there are a total of 7720 civil servants in Murmansk Oblast, of whom 4322 work for federal institutions, 1175 for the regional administration and 2225 for municipal administrations. Salaries among Murmansk officials are highest in the regional administration (43.300 RUB), while federal officials in the region make a monthly of 31.657 RUB and officials in the municipal administrations 33.352 RUB. The 1,1 million civil servants working for the Russian regional and municipal level of power monthly earn an average of 20.500 RUB, which is higher than the overall Russian salary average (15.400 RUB), but lower than the civil servants working for federal institutions in Moscow (27.500 RUB). The statistical figures also show that regional officials’ salaries are highest among the ones working for the legislative bodies and lowest among the ones working with legal issues and for the prosecutors.
