Northern power generator invests 10 billion in Sochi
One of the most powerful electric power generators in Northwest Russia, the TGK-2 company, is investing ten billion RUB in the construction of a power station outside Sochi.
The power generator, which has generating units in Arkhangelsk Oblast and several other northern Russian regions, will contribute to the grand Russian Olympic project in Sochi with the construction of the Kudepstinskaya power station.
The station, which is official part of the industrial development of the Olympic city, will have a capacity of 320 MWh. It will be ready for operations in 2013 and cost an estimated 10 billion RUB (240 million EUR). The place of construction is the village of Kudepsta in Krasnodar Kray.
A public hearing on the project was last week held in the village, a press release from the company informs.
Meanwhile, the power generator has major economic challenges on its home ground. Last fall, the company got permission from the federal government to cut its planned investment programme, consequently reducing its planned upgrade of capacities, newspaper Vedomosti reports.
Power consumption in Sochi is growing rapidly as new Olympic objects are being built in the area. In the course of the next five years power consumption is believed to exceed 1300 MWh, which is more than the double of today’s consumption.
