Lukoil to train offshore specialists in Murmansk, Arkhangelsk
Russian oil company Lukoil will send oilmen to Murmansk and Arkhangelsk for training in offshore field development.
The training program is part of an agreement signed by Lukoil and the Russian State Maritime Academy of Akademik Makarov this week. In addition to training in the Academy’s headquarters in Sankt Petersburg, the company representatives will take part in program activities in the branch divisions in Murmansk and Arkhangelsk, a press release from Lukoil reads.
Together, the two organizations will develop and introduce a set of joint standards for training and skills evaluation for personnel working on the shelf, Lukoil informs. From before, the Murmansk branch of the Maritime Academy has concluded a similar agreement with the Murmansk-based oil company Arktikmorneftegazrazvedka.

Lukoil has offshore activities in the Caspian Sea, the Black Sea as well as in several foreign countries. The company has long shown interest also in the Arctic shelf, where it is currently banned from operating because of regulations in federal legislation.
An agreement concluded by Lukoil and Rosneft last week might open the door for Arctic offshore participation. The agreement states that the two companies together can engage both in exploration and field development on licenses belonging to Rosneft, a press release from Lukoil reads. The agreement also opens up for joint projects in the oil and gas-rich Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
Lukoil is Russia’s biggest privately owned oil producer with an annual production close to 100 million tons. Only the state-controlled Rosneft produces more, about 115 million tons per year.
