Shtokman developers sign deal with shipbuilders

The cooperation agreement between the Shtokman Development AG and the United Shipbuilding Association will secure the role of Russian industry in the project, the parts say.

The agreement signed in Moscow on 2 June confirms the Shtokman developers’ intention to include Russian industry to the biggest possible extent, a press release from the company reads.

-The participation of Russian industrial companies in the development of their technological capacities is one of the main priorities for our company, leader of the SDAG Aleksei Zagorovski says. -The Shtokman project provides an impulse for the industrial and service potential of Russian industry, and in this connection we intend to join forces with the United Shipbuilding Association, he adds.

The two companies will now establish a joint working group which is to identify and attract Russian industrial companies to the project.

Capacity building and technological training has long been a key priority for the offshore oil and gas industry in Northwest Russia. Together with Statoil, the regional administrations of both Murmansk and Arkhangelsk in 2006 established regional networks for oil and gas-related industry, the Murmanshelf and the Sozvezdiye organizations.

The United Shipbuilding Association includes a number of Russia biggest shipyards, among them the Sevmash and Zvezdochka yards in Severodvinsk.
