2WW bombs threaten Shtokman developers
Mines, torpedoes and bombs from the Second World War have on several occasions threatened personnel involved in Shtokman project preparations in Teriberka on the Barents Sea coast, a Gazprom representative confirms.
Representative of Gazprom Dobycha Shelf Gennady Gavrilin confirms to Regnum that two mines, three bombs, two torpedoes, as well as other armament from the Second World War, have been found in the area of the Shtokman project site in Teriberka on the coast of the Barents Sea.
All the explosives were found and destructed in the course of spring 2010, Gavrilin says. He also stresses that construction works on the site have started. About 200 men are involved in upgrading the road from Murmansk to Teriberka, and also ground preparations and drilling operations are underway.
As part of the work, several kilometers of the river of Orlovka will get a new stream course. The river runs out in the Barents Sea and will give way to Shtokman project installations.
