BarentsObserver welcomes Tschudi Shipping
Tschudi Shipping Company AS, which celebrates its 125 anniversary this year, is the Norwegian holding company for a shipping and logistics group with strong focus on the Northern region, Russia, FSU and the Baltic Sea. BarentsObserver now welcomes the company as a new partner.
Tschudi Shipping Company has also been instrumental in facilitating the reopening of the Syd-Varanger iron mines outside Kirkenes, Norway through the stock listing of Northern Iron Limited in Australia.
With its reopening of the Syd-Varanger mines outside Kirkenes, due in 2009, Northern Iron Limited and Tschudi Shipping Company continues more than 100 years of mining history in the area. With its mining project, the company will be operating in the Norwegian-Russian borderlands.
The Australian-registered company Northern Iron, owned 51,5 percent by Tschudi Shipping, will be responsible for extraction projected to total of 7Mtpa of ore and 2.9Mtpa of magnetite iron concentrate over a 19 year span.
The Sydvaranger Iron Project consists of three magnetite iron deposits with JORC compliant resources and a further 20 prospects with known iron mineralisation located over a 12km strike length.
In addition to its mining activities, Tschudi Shipping Company AS already has a presence in the region by being involved in transhipment of oil cargoes through its fully owned subsidiary Kirkenes Transit AS. The company also owns an expanding logistics and liner activity which will have a presence in Kirkenes. By combining its presence in Kirkenes as a local industrial developer and real estate owner with its strong presence in the shipping, logistics and offshore industries Tschudi Shipping Company AS aims at being a strong and active partner for the onshore and offshore industries at both sides of the Norwegian Russian Border.
