Biofuel priority in Arkhangelsk

USD 161 million can be invested into bio-pellets production in Arkhangelsk Oblast over the next few years.

When Arkhangelsk governor Ilya Mikhalchik announced the bio-fuel investment plans he said it could be carried out on basis of private-public partnership. Investors are now being actively sought, reports MarchmontNews.com.

With an estimated investment of USD 161 million the payback time is up to seven years. Seven factories for production of bio-pellets and granules made of waste from the many sawmills in Arkhangelsk region. There will also be made major up-grades of local boilers and construction of mini power stations. Many of the existing boilers in local communities use heavy oil as fuel causing both pollution and huge impacts on local budgets.

Around 800 new jobs will be reportedly created in the region as a result of the project implementation.

Yesterday BarentsObserver wrote about the Norwegian County of Rogaland that initiated several cooperative projects with Arkhangelsk, including a biofuel production project.
