Energy, transport on Russian cross-border agenda
The energy industry, transport infrastructure, innovation and small and medium-sized businesses are on top of the Russian agenda in cross-border cooperation, the country’s Minster of Regional Development maintains.
Minister Viktor Basargin also highlighted that Russia now needs to strengthen its legislative basis on cross-border cooperation and adopt a federal law on the issue. He also said that Russia plans to establish a new body on cross-border activities.
Speaking in this week’s conference on cross-border cooperation with the EU and Norway, Minister Viktor Basargin said that cooperation with the neighboring states is vital for the development of Russian regions. He also underlined that the Russian border regions have accumulated significant experiences on the development of joint programmes and project with the respective neighboring countries.
-I believe that the accumulated experience allows us to enter a new level of cross-border cooperation […] with a more qualitative and significant result, the minister said in the conference which took place in Sankt Petersburg.
Mr. Basargin underlined that energy issues, transport infrastructure, innovation and small and medium-sized businesses are on top of the Russian agenda in cross-border cooperation, a press release from the Ministry of Regional Development reads.
The minister in the meeting also informed that Russia plans to establish an inter-ministerial authority, which will coordinate Russian cross-border cooperation and represent Russian interests on the inter-state level.
