Gazprom to spend more in Southeast Asia than in Shtokman
Russian energy major Gazprom will in 2010 invest 15 billion RUB in offshore projects outside India and Vietnam. That is more than in the Shtokman project.
In an interview with newspaper Vedomosti, a representative of Gazprom confirms that the company in 2010 will invest 5.48 billion RUB in the waters outside the Indian Bengal coast and 9.43 billion RUB in projects outside Vietnam, Oilru.com reports.
That is a serious sum considering Gazprom’s crisis-ridden investment programmes. Following dramatic cuts in revenues, the company was in 2009 and 2010 forced to make major cuts in investments. As BarentsObserver reported, Gazprom’s 2009 investment programme totals 761.5 billion RUB, which is down 158.9 billion from the 2008 plan
The 2010 investments in the Southeast Asian projects are bigger than the company’s planned investments in the Shtokman project. An estimated 13 billion RUB will be invested by Gazprom in the Barents Sea project next year.
