Jet fuel into Lapland river
About 20,000 litres of jef fuel yesterday spilled into the Kemi River in Finnish Lapland following an accident with a tanker truck.
The truck was carrying around 50,000 litres of the jet fuel, Yle News reports. Most of the spilled 20,000 litres ended up in the nearby Kemi River. The accident took place near the city of Rovaniemi. Although this type of fuel quickly evaporates, it does pose a hazard to river wildlife. District Emergency Services Chief Timo Rantala told YLE that the spill should not pose a danger to local residents.
