Last pipes heading for Yamal

ARKHANGELSK: This sailing season’s last shipments of pipes for the Bovanenkovo-Ukhta pipeline on the Yamal peninsula are being loaded on vessels in the Arkhangelsk Commercial Port.

Two vessels from the Northern Shipping Company in Arkhangelsk are now preparing for this year’s last trip to the Yamal Peninsula with pipes for the underwater pipeline that is being built across the Baydaratskaya Bay. The underwater pipeline is part of the 1100 km long Bovanenkovo-Ukhta pipeline, which will link the huge Bovanenkovo gas field with the Russian west-bound pipeline grid.

When the construction of the pipeline is finished in 2013, the system will consist of four parallel lines of 72 kilometers each. Three of the pipelines will deliver gas condensate, while the fourth is dedicated for communication and electricity supply.

- The first line is finished, while construction of the second one is underway, General Director of Arkhangelsk Commercial Port Vladimir Titov told BarentsObserver. The first gas from the Bovanenkovo field is planned to be shipped through the pipeline in 2011, he added. Gas will then be delivered through only one line, while another will be in reserve.

The Arkhangelsk Commercial Port is now preparing to build a plant for concrete coating of pipes. As of now, the coated pipes are delivered from the Moscow area by railroad. The plant is planned to be ready for production in March-April next year. It will be the first of its type in North-Western Russia, and the leadership in the Arkhangelsk Commercial Port hopes that this will give Arkhangelsk advantages in the fight for Shtokman tenders.
