Less oil from Varandey
Oil export shipping from the Arctic terminal of Varandey is down 60 percent.
Figures from Lukoil shows that the terminal located on the Pechora Sea coast in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug exported 2,43 million tons in the first half of 2011. That is sixty percent less than in the same period in 2010, Portnews.ru reports.
The terminal both in 2009 and 2010 exported about 7,5 million tons of oil. The top capacity of the terminal, which was opened in mid-2008, is about 12 million tons.
As reported by BarentsObserver, several companies are currently considering to take use of Lukoil’s oil pipeline infrastructure and terminal capacity in the region. Among those are both Bashneft, which holds the license to the regional Trebs and Titov fields and Zarubezhneft.
The oil exported from Varandey is shipped through the Barents Sea and along the Norwegian coast to reception centres either in western Europe or the USA.
