Lofoten to be opened for oil production
The Norwegian petroleum industry is confident that Norway sooner or later will open up for oil production in the vulnerable waters outside Lofoten.
-It will be oil production outside the [northern] county of Nordland – the question is only when and how, Stein Lier Hansen, head of Federation of Norwegian Industries, says to newspaper Dagens Næringsliv. In a recent oil and gas conference in Stavanger, he said that he “has no doubt that the whole of Norway in year 2050 will see the petroleum activities in the North as a success”, the federation website reports.
Mr. Hansen is supported by Lars Arne Ryssdal, head of the Norwegian Oil Industry Association (OLF), who underlines that Norway needs new fields in order to compensate for the current declining production. –It is about time with a decision on the Nordland VI and Troms II areas [outside Lofoten], he maintains.
Mr. Ryssdal believes hydrocarbons worth about 500 billion NOK (63 billion EUR) is located under the sea bottom in the Nordland area.
