Murmansk parliament speaker becomes party leader

Speaker in the Murmansk regional parliament, Yevgenii Nikora, has been appointed new leader of United Russia’s party branch in Murmansk Oblast.

Mr. Nikora, who since 2007 successfully has headed the Murmansk regional duma, will take over a party branch which long has been ridden by internal rivalries. It is believed that Mr. Nikora could be the right man to bridge conflicting regional party interests. Before 2007, Yevgenii Nikora had a leading post in the Kola Nuclear Power Plant. His popularity in Murmansk Oblast can be illustrated by this October’s media popularity ranking, which placed the parliament speaker on top ahead of Governor Yuri Yevdkimov.
