Murmansk Port, Norilsk Nickel signed deal

A five-year cooperation agreement has been signed by the Murmansk Sea Trade Port and mining and metallurgy major Norilsk Nickel. The agreement comes as Norilsk Nickel is in the process of developing its own fleet of cargo vessels.

The agreement includes the intention to facilitate loading operation and increase trade turnover, Regnum.ru reports with reference to Seanews.ru.

In a visit to Murmansk last week, Norilsk Nickel representatives inspected both its new terminal currently under construction, and its new Arctic tanker “Monchegorsk”, as well as the Murmansk Sea Port, the port administration reports on its website.

Norilsk Nickel is currently investing in the construction of fleet of ice-protected Arctic tankers, which will make the company less dependent of regional shipping agencies and icebreaker services. The new-built vessel “Monchegorsk” recently left the Aker shipyard in German Wismar and headed towards Murmansk, which will be the ship’s home port.
