New military hospital in Northern Russia opens doors for legions of wounded men
As the number of killed and wounded soldiers on the battlefields in Ukraine reaches a record high, the Russian ministry of war opens its new large military hospital in Mirny, Arkhangelsk region.
Russia is losing countless men in its war of aggression against Ukraine and the need for medical care appears endless.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the aggressor state has lost about 350,000 soldiers, killed and wounded, so far in 2025.
Just in the battles of Pokrovsk, Russia has lost 'tens of thousands' of men, head of Ukraine's Security Service Vasyl Malyuk said.
According to Ukrainian authorities, Russia's total losses since it started its full-scale war in 2022 now amount to more than 1,16 million killed and wounded.
There is a huge need for medical treatment of the wounded and new military hospitals are being built across the country to meet demand.
Among the new clinics is a 126,000-square-metre complex in Mirny, Arkhangelsk region.
The construction of the new hospital is now almost completed, the Russian Military Construction Company reported in early November.
"We are completing the process of handing over the facility to the user. Military doctors will be able to commence their duties in the near future," representative of the Construction Company Nikolai Chemodanov said.
A high level of secrecy surrounds the new complex. Its location in Mirny, a remote and closed military town, allows the authorities to keep all processes connected with the hospital and its patients under strict control.
It is known that the complex includes 11 buildings and that the number of beds amount to 300. According to Chemodanov, the medical complex is equipped with "everything necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of military personnel," including MR and CT scanners, rooms for physiotherapy, exercise therapy, X-rays, dentistry and ultrasound scans.
Similar new hospitals are under construction in the regions of Kursk, Belgorod, Bryansk, Samara, Ryazan, Penza, Mirny, St. Petersburg, Moscow, and more.
The military hospital in Polyarny, Kola Peninsula, is also under major reconstruction.
According to Igor Makovsky, general director of the Military Construction Company, as many as 20 new military hospitals are to be made ready to treat patients in the course of 2025.
"The schedule must be strictly adhered to. All complex problems are solved promptly, 24/7," he said in a statement.
The Military Construction Company was previously headed by Timur Ivanov, the deputy defence minister who in June 2025 was sentenced to 13 years in prison for accepting bribes "on a particularly large scale."
Mirny is a closed military town located near the cosmodrome of Plesetsk in the Arkhangelsk region. It has a population of about 27 thousand, many of whom work for the Russian armed forces.
