Norway educates Arctic sailors
The rough and unstable climate is a big challenge when sailing in the High North. Norway will now start to educate sailors specially trained for sailing in these vulnerable areas.
The Norwegian Coastal Administration and the University of Tromsø have concluded an agreement on education of sailors who can navigate safely in Arctic waters and on research on challenges connected to sea transport and operations in the Arcitc.

- We are searching for new ways to reduce risks connected with sea transport and believe the cooperation with the University in Tromsø will contribute to this, says Director General of the Norwegian Coastal Administration Kirsti Slotsvik on the department’s web site. – We are also going to have a joint project on research and development, she adds.
The future Arctic sailors will be trained in safety at sea, sea surveillance, coastal administration and jurisdiction and pollution, environment and preparedness.
