Norwegian investors invited to Arkhangelsk Port

Arkhangelsk Governor Ilya Mikhalchuk wants big Norwegian companies to invest in the development of a new deep-water port by the White Sea. The project will be a major impetus for Russian-Norwegian economic cooperation, he believes.

When meeting with Norwegian General Consul in Murmansk Jon Fredriksen this week, the Arkhangelsk governor highlighted his interest in getting Norwegian investors to the planned grand upgrade of the local port. The port is seen as a potentially key link in exports of industrial goods and is planned linked up with new railway connections to Western Siberia. In the meeting, the governor also welcomed Norwegian companies to establish joint ventures with Russian enterprises within the field of mineral extraction and forestry. Governor Mikhalchuk also proposed to revive plans for a new Norwegian general consulate in Arkhangelsk. Until 1917, Norway had a general consulate in the northern Russian city.
