Norwegian-Russian study on miners’ health

Norwegian and Russian health specialists are going to cooperate on a study of health problems from working in the mining industry under Arctic conditions.

A project involving The University Hospital in Northern Norway (UNN) and the Clinic for Occupational Medicine in Apatity, Murmansk Oblast, aims at creating mutual understanding in the Barents Region of the importance of health controls and the prevention and handling of health challenges in the mining industry, a press release from UNN reads.

The mining industry employs more and more people in the Barents region. Many of them are exposed to a combination of cold weather, ergonomic factors and vibrations from machinery. There is limited knowledge about cause and effect relationship in health problems from working in the mining industry under arctic conditions, the press release reads.

The project is financially supported by the Norwegian Barents Secretariat.
