Nuclear power not discussed by Shtokman partners

In an interview with Expert, the head of StatoilHydro’s Russia office confirms that the nuclear energy question not being studied by the Shtokman Development Company.
Representatives of Gazprom has earlier indicated that nuclear power will be essential in the development of the project. As previously reported by BarentsObserver, the company has also ordered three floating nuclear power plants, which are to be used in far northern projects.
In the interview with Expert, Mr. Li Hansen also confirms that the question whether StatoilHydro and Total will be allowed to record parts of the Shtokman gas as their own reserves will be decided on only when the final investment decision in the project is taken in fall 2009.
The 3,8 trillion cubic meter field in the Barents Sea will be developed by the Shtokman Development Company, stakeholders of which is Gazprom (51%), Total (25%) and StatoilHydro (24%). The project will start production in 2013.
