Oil company with compromise at Goliat
Oil company ENI appears to have compromised with regional authorities in northern Norway. Oil from the Goliat oil field in the Barents Sea will not be landed in northern Norway. In return, parts of the Goliat platform will be built in the region.
According to newspaper Finnmark Dagblad, the town of Hammerfest is the likely site for construction of the platform. Regional politicians in northern Norway have long demanded that the oil from Goliat should be landed in order to spur local employment and economy. ENI, however, wants it otherwise and instead proposes to produce the oil offshore with a special platform. The Aker Kværner company is reported to have been involved in the development of Goliat concepts. According to Finnmark Dagblad, ENI prefers Aker Kværners socalled SEMO-concept. The Rypefjord area outside Hammerfest is the likely place for construction of the Goliat platform. The nearby town of Alta was for some time considered as an alternative site, but this is no longer the case, the newspaper reports.
