Problems recruiting local youth to border studies
Barents International School in Kirkenes is experiencing problems recruiting enough students.
Barents International School was founded in 2007 with the objective to educate young people in international border studies. The school has experienced problems in recruiting local youth, and the advanced level, the bachelor’s degree, is now discontinued.
- When we started up, we had no idea that the people who live by the border take so little interest in studying it, project leader of the school Peter Fischer says.
Fischer believes that English being the medium of instruction at the school might scare some of the potential students away. Barents International School will now take measures to a more active recruitment of local youth.
