Russia cuts back on aircraft production

The Russian United Aircraft Corporation (OAK) will in the period to 2012 produce only half as many passenger aircrafts as planned two years ago.

In the period 2009-2012 OAK plans to build 196 passenger aircrafts, news agency ARMS-TASS reports. According to the previous plan, dated April 2007, OAK should build 430 new passenger aircrafts by 2012.

The reason for the cutbacks is naturally the financial crisis. The number of passengers has gone considerably down, and is expected to continue doing so in the near future.

Concerning transport aircraft and military aircraft, the plans have not been altered, ARMS-TASS claims.
