Snow from Murmansk saves Alpine Cup in Moscow
5500 cubic meters of snow will be transported from the mountains outside Apatity, Murmansk Oblast, to Moscow, where a competition in parallel slalom is to be held next weekend.
The FIS Alpine Ski Champions Cup in will take place in Moscow on 21st November 2009. For this event, a 60 meters high, 37 meters wide and 210 meters long artificial hill has been built.
The hill needs to be covered with 50 centimeters of snow, but because of the current warm climate in Moscow, the snow has to be imported from colder areas of Russia, B-port.com reports.
The City of Moscow has sent a machine for production of artificial snow to Apatity, where production of snow has already started. The first refrigerated trailers with snow are already on the 2000 kilometers long road to Moscow.
