Statoil expands with 40 more gasoline stations in Russia

Statoil-branded service stations on the Kola peninsula make success. Of more than 2,000 Statoil stations worldwide, the eight in northern Russia are the most profitable. Now, Statoil plan to open 40 more service stations in and around St. Petersburg.

The Norwegian Statoil-branded gasoline and service stations chain in the Murmansk area is a business success story. Each week, more than 50,000 customers visits the eight Statoil stations in Murmansk, Olenogorsk, Monchegorsk and Apatity on the Kola Peninsula north of the Arctic Circle. Statoil was the first western oil company to open a retail outlet in this part of Russia. -Our gasoline stations in Murmansk are the most profitable of all our gasoline stations worldwide, says director for energy- and retail Jacob Schram, interviewed by the Norwegian daily VG. He says one of the most successful products at the chains stations in Murmansk is fast-food. – People come here to eat lunch, says Jacob Schram. At Statoil in Murmansk you can get everything from hot-dogs to vodka, and, yes, of course gasoline. The planed expansion in the St. Petersburg area will come over the next several years.
