Storm interrupted Shtokman operation
The research vessel Akademik Mstislav Keldysh was this week forced to interrupt its mission on the Shtokman field in the Barents Sea because of a storm. The vessel carried an international crew of researchers studying the sea bed of the area of the planned Shtokman gas pipeline.
Following the interrupted mission, the research vessel was this week moored three days in the Murmansk Fish Port. The vessel will return to the Shtokman area in spring, Murman.ru reports.
The Akademik Mstislav Keldysh is operated by the Russian Shirshov Institute of Oceanology. The 122 meter long and 6300 ton deadweight ship is built in 1981. It carries the two mini-subs Mir-1 and Mir-2 known from last year’s well-known Russian flag-planting on the North Pole shelf.
The home port of the ship is Kaliningrad.
