Tender for Russian fish processing factory on Svalbard

The Russian Fisheries Committee has announced a tender for the projecting of a fish processing plant on Svalbard.

The tender for projecting of the factory, which will be built in the Russian settlement of Barentsburg, was published on the Fisheries Committee’s web site today. The estimated cost for the contract is 617.400 EUR, according to Trade.su.

As BarentsObserver reported, the plans for building for a fish processing plant in Barentsburg was announced by Head of the Russian Fisheries Committee Andrey Krayny during a visit in Murmansk in January.

- The factory will make it easier for Russian fishing vessels to deliver the catch, Mr. Krayny said, as the transit from the fishing grounds to Barentsburg only takes one hour. The factory will also secure employment for the Russian population in Barentsburg, he added.

Andrey Krayny in January said that the factory will be built by Norwegian specialists. The reason for this is that Norway has very strict environmental regulations, and it is easier for Norwegians to follow these rules accurately.
