The three-zone development of Yamal
The gas-rich Yamal Peninsula will be developed along three industrial production zones. The first one in the line is the Bovanenkovo zone, which includes three major fields with a total annual production capacity of 220 billion cubic meters.
The Bovanenkovo zone includes the Bovanenkovo field, the Kharasaveyskoe field and the Kruzenshterskoe field, of which the Bovenenkovo field is the by far biggest with its estimated reserves of up to 4,9 trillion cubic meters of gas.
The second zone – the Tambeyskaya - includes six fields with projected annual production of 65 billion cubic meters of gas.
The third zone – the Southern one – includes nine fields, among them the Novoportskoe and Arkticheskoe, with planned annual production of about 30 bilion cubic meters.
Gazprom is the license holder to all the major fields in the area. The company in summer 2008 started the laying of pipelines to the peninsula. A 1100 km long pipeline is to stretch from Yamal westwards to the city of Ukhta in the Komi Republic.
When fully developed, the Yamal Peninsula will alone annually produce twice more than today’s total gas export Russia, Yamal.org reports. The gas discoveries of the peninsula and adjacent areas amount to about 16 trillion cubic meters. However, experts believe the local reserves will increase further, to about 22 trillion cubic meters, the news site reports.
A total of 11 gas field and 15 condensate field discoveries have been made in the peninsula.
