World Cup opening may move to Levi
Due to lack of snow in the Alps, the World Cup in Alpine may start in Finnish Lapland this year.
The traditional season-opener in Sölden in Austria can be cancelled because of lack of snow. So far, the autumn in Austria has been with unseasonably mild weather, which again has prevented the use of snow cannons to produce artificial snow, even in 3.000 metres above sea level, reports Helsingin Sanomat.
In October 2006, the World Cup opening in Sölden was cancelled due to lack of snow, and was hold in Levi two weeks later with a slalom event.
Levi’s website today reports that they have 20 cm of natural snow.
