Yevdokimov eyed post as senator
Ex-Governor Yury Yevdokimov this week made an attempt to secure federal support for a seat in the Russian Federation Council. The bid was however rejected by the council, the upper chamber of the Russian parliament.
According to Nezavisimaya Gazeta, Yevdokimov this week actively tried to lobby his candidacy for the seat of Murmansk Oblast in the assembly. However, that attempt remained without positive results. Leader of the council, Sergey Mironov categorically rejected the bid from the former Murmansk governor. Today, the powerful businessman Andrey Guryev is the representative of Murmansk Oblast in the Federation Council. He is believed to have good chances for a new term in the council under new Murmansk Governor Dmitry Dmitriyenko. As previously reported by BarentsObserver, a new political reform will from 2011 make all senators elected from the regional parliaments.
