Stanislav Krukovsky was major in the Federal Security Service. He was killed in Ukraine in July 2024.

Killed FSB major that sailed submarines in Barents Sea is declared 'hero of Russia'

Stanislav Krukovsky served in the Northern Fleet base of Gadzhievo and worked with counterintelligence in the naval infantry base of Sputnik before he was appointed to lead a security service unit in Ukraine.

Krukovsky is the first counterintelligence agent in contemporary Russian history that has been declared 'hero of Russia,' a Russian military organisation claims.

In a decree signed by Vladimir Putin on October 29, 2024, the senior military officer was post-mortem declared ‘hero of the Russian Federation’ for his alleged ‘courage and bravery displayed in military service.’

The 34-year-old major in the Federal Security Service (FSB) was killed near the Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk on July 2, 2024.

According to propaganda media, his service normally included counterintelligence in safe distance from the frontline. Nevertheless, in June 2024 he was deployed in battle where he reportedly commanded a naval infantry unit. He was hit by a FPV drone.

His call sign was "Murmansk."

The deployment of a FSB major in battle on the frontline could be a reflection of a dire personnel situation among the attacking Russian forces.

Stanislav Krukovsky built his military career in the Kola Peninsula. After he graduated from the Moscow Suvorov military school in 2008 and the FSB's Border Institute in Kaliningrad in 2013, he served as a FSB officer at the Northern Fleet's 31st submarine division in Gadzhievo.

For years he is believed to have served on subs that operate in the Barents Sea and beyond.

"We don't care at all about sun, light and air," he reportedly said when returning from a submarine mission.

In a propaganda video showed on pro-war information platforms, his parents proudly describe a military man who loved to wage war.

Krukovsky also served for a period in Sputnik, the base of the 61st Naval Infantry Brigade, located near the border to Norway and Finland.

After 2018, he served as special agent in the newly established 117th naval infantry unit in the Caspian Fleet. He was also participating in Russian military operations in Syria.

Stanislav Krukovsky is one of the several hundred thousands Russian troops killed and wounded in Ukraine. Along with him are thousands of servicemen from the Northern Fleet, including the naval bases of Gadzhievo and Sputnik.

Among them was Yuri Svedovoy, who commanded a unit that fought in Mariupol, Volnovakha, Marinka and Avdeevka.

Captain Svedovoy was first of all a sailor and expert on warfare in the Arctic. He used the call sign Polyarnik (Polar Explorer) and was trained at the 269th underwater Spetsnaz unit in Gadzhievo.

In the naval town located on the coast of the Barents Sea, Svedovoy got training in underwater special operations and sabotage.
